1. Characteristics of compression spring

CompressionSprings provide resistance to external load. Compression springs are usually wire coiling at equal pitch and have a fixed wire diameter. Compression springs use multiple open coils to provide resistance by carrying external pressure (such as gravity pressing down on a wheel, or body pressing down on a mattress). In other words, they push back against external pressure. In addition, there are conical compression springs, or conical and linear combinations of springs. Depending on the application field, compression springs can be used to resist pressure and/or store energy. The round wire is the compression spring is more commonly used, but there are also square, rectangular and special shape of the wire produced by the compression spring.

2. Parameters of compression spring

Each term in the above formula means:

G = shear modulus of elasticity [MPa, psi] (G value: steel wire 8000, stainless steel 7200)

D = line diameter [mm, in]

N = valid winding number [-]

D = center diameter [mm, in]

K = spring coefficient [N/mm, lb/in]

This formula is the formula for calculating the stiffness of the spring, and the stiffness times the working stroke is equal to the working force of the spring.

According to the above formula, we can get that the parameters of the compression spring must be composed of such parameters as material, wire diameter, center diameter, effective coil number, total length of the spring, working height and required force. If the spring that does not have special requirement to the force, can not provide the working height of the spring and the parameter of demand force.
